This weekend Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao puts his WBO welterweight title on the line against little-known challenger Jeff Horn.
The announcement of the fight was met with more than a few raised eyebrows given the fact that Horn is relevantly unknown outside of his native Australia.
So who exactly is the Aussie fighter looking to shock the world and rip the WBO title away from Pacquiao?
Jeff ‘the Hornet’ Horn, 29, has amassed 17 wins so far in his undefeated pro career with 11 wins by way of knockout.
He is the current WBO Inter-Continental welterweight champion and he represented Australia at the 2012 Olympics in London reaching the quarter-finals in the lightweight division.
Horn is currently ranked #2 in the welterweight division by the WBO and could propel himself into the spotlight if he can find a way to over come Pacquiao, a massive step up in class compared to his previous opponents.
The fight was originally scheduled to go ahead in February of this year but was subsequently scuppered when Pacquiao announced that his team was close to agreeing terms on a showdown with Amir Kahn.
When the Kahn fight failed to materialize a deal for Pacquiao and Horn to fight was agreed.
Pacquiao, who earlier in the negotiation process admitted that he had no idea who Jeff Horn was, has declared that he is using the fight as a stepping stone towards a rematch with Floyd Mayweather should his old foe decide against retiring for a third time after his highly charged encounter with UFC star Conor McGregor.
Pacquiao has admitted he’s looking to put in a dominant performance in the hope of securing a rematch with long-standing rival Mayweather.
It’s widely believed within the boxing community that Pacquiao will have little trouble sending 55,000 fans home disappointed from the Suncorp Stadium this weekend by easily dispatching the home fighter, But Horn is extremely confident that he will be the one to come out victorious and add his name firmly into the mix of an already packed welterweight division.
