On Saturday 24th June, Bellator MMA hold their hotly-anticipated pay-per-view event in New York, at the most famous sporting arena in the world Madison Square Garden. This is the first time the promotion has ever been to New York. It is an event not to be missed.
Bellator NYC throws down the gauntlette between former UFC Middleweight and Light-Heavyweight Chael ‘The American Gangster’ Sonnen, versus a very familar enemy in former Pride Middleweight Champion Wanderlei ‘The Axe Murderer’ Silva in the main event. Both with former UFC experience and a history of bad blood.
Chael Sonnen was the first of his kind in the MMA world to use trash talk to promote his fights. Brazilian Silva is a vicious competitor, not someone Sonnen wants to talk too much trash too.
Featured is the main card below:
The co-main event includes possibly the best fighter to have never stepped foot inside the UFC octogon, Fedor ‘The Last Emperor‘ Emelianenko. Fedor is on a 36-4 record as well as a five fight win streak. He faces former UFC Heavyweight star Matt Mitrione who signed with the company in 2016 and has won both of his contests by knockout.
Also on the card is Douglas Lima who faces Lorenz Larkin for the Bellator Welterweight title. Brazilian Lima is a Bellator veteran who’s been with the company from 2011, he has vicious kicks and knockout power.
Newly signed former UFC Welterweight contender Loenz Larkin looks to light up the division in his first fight under this new promotion.
Another title fight will take place at MSG featuring Bellator Lightweight Champion Michael Chandler, who is off the back of his biggest win of his career over former UFC Lightweight Champion Benson Henderson. Chandler faces an undefeated newcomer Brent Primus who has an impressive 7-0 record and looks to take his crown.
