Billy Joe Saunders Crashes First Canelo-Golovkin Press Conference

Billy Joe Saunders, never far from controversy, yesterday seized upon the opportunity to thrust himself into the mix of one of the biggest fights of the year.

The outspoken WBO World Champion who shares a gym and trains with former unified heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, interrupted the Canelo-Golovkin press conference and fired shots at both fighters.

Saunders questioned why Alvarez decided to vacate his WBC title last year instead of facing off against ‘GGG’, before laying down a challenge to whoever wins the highly charged encounter.

As an interpreter for Mexican icon Alvarez began to translate his answer, Saunders shouted out ‘Don’t bother with that. I know what you said, that you s**t yourself.’

Alvarez was quick to respond to the criticism and while focusing his attention on Saunders’ weight, he replied: ‘I didn’t even recognise you, I suggest you lose a few pounds before you think about fighting anyone’.

Alvarez didn’t stop there; he went on to claim that he would beat Saunders with one arm tied behind his back and his eyes closed.

Saunders then turned his attention to Golovkin, asking why the undefeated Kazak Knockout Specialist had pulled out of two planned summer fights with him.

Golovkin claimed that the only reason he wanted to fight Saunders in the first place was for a tune up for the real fight with Canelo.
‘GGG’ then appeared to take further shots at Saunders’ condition by claiming that his own team had stated their man would never have been fit enough for a summer showdown.

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin will finally step into the ring on September 16th in Las Vegas to settle their long-standing rivalry while Saunders will be hoping to stay in the hunt for a huge showdown with the winner when he faces off against an as yet unnamed opponent on the same evening.
